Can you still buy Koikatsu? How to buy it in 2026

You will often read that Koikatsu can no longer be bought. That is not quite right: the original game is still on sale on Steam. Here is the situation as of August 2026, checked against the store itself.

The short answer

The original Koikatsu is still available as "コイカツ!/ Koikatsu Party" on Steam.

Koikatsu Sunshine, on the other hand, has no official storefront left.

Note that the Steam release does not ship with a Japanese interface. Worth knowing before you buy.

Why people say it is gone

Illusion, the developer, ended development and sales of all its products on 18 August 2023. Its own shop and every Japanese storefront that carried the games — DLsite, FANZA and others — stopped selling them at the same time.

The Steam release is the exception and is still on sale. Reports that the game is "discontinued" usually refer to the Japanese storefronts and do not account for Steam.

What you can buy on Steam

ProductTypePrice
コイカツ!/ Koikatsu PartyBase game¥6,290
After PartyPaid DLC¥5,750
Koikatsu Party VRFree DLCFree

Prices are as shown on the Japanese Steam store and change with sales and region. Always check the store before buying.

Before you buy

  • Supported languages are English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese
  • The After Party DLC is English only
  • The Steam release is the international version and differs from the Japanese release in some content

If you want to play in Japanese, HF Patch can switch the Steam release to Japanese. Its own documentation describes buying the Steam release and switching the language.

About Koikatsu Sunshine

Sunshine was never released on Steam, and since 18 August 2023 there is no official way to buy it.

This site does not point to unofficial sources. Sunshine mods are listed in the catalogue for people who already own the game.

After you buy

HF Patch is the usual starting point: it installs translations, fixes and the main plugins in one pass. Back up your game folder and save data before installing anything.
